Charles John Johnson was born on July 23, 1923, in the R.M. of Rosedale near Riding Mountain to his parents Richard Nesbitt Johnson and Ida Victoria McLaughlin. He was the fourth child in a family of six. He attended Oakleaf school which was a one room classroom in the R.M of Lansdowne, MB. Following school, Charlie worked as a farm labourer, until about 1974, he began to work for the Town of Neepawa.
In 1949 he married Emily Eileen Smith and together they raised a family of 9 children. Sadly they lost their youngest child Dani in 1982 at the age of 10. As well as working hard to provide for his family, Charlie enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. He and Eileen enjoyed going to all the dances in the community that they could. They enjoyed the two-step and waltzes. Charlie never missed an opportunity to get someone on the dance floor for a heel to toe polka. When he retired he enjoyed gardening and canning.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents Richard and Ida, his youngest Son Dani, his wife Eileen, his sisters Vivian Kohinski, Myrtle Hirney, and Lavina Squires. His brothers Tom and Sandy.
Charlie is survived by 5 sons: John, Redg, Edwin, Daune, Gerald and 3 daughters Emily, Myrna, and Leigh Anne. He will also be remembered by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. And by one sister-in-law Dorothy Johnson.
Charlie Johnson passed away at the age of 96 on December 4, 2019 in the Personal Care Home in the Wawanesa. With Charlie's passing, that generation of the Johnson family comes to an end. The Johnson name will be carried on with the next generation.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his family and by all those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
