Alexander Cruikshank Obituary

Alex Bertin Cruikshank

It is with great sadness and disbelief we announce the sudden and unexpected yet peaceful passing of our brother/uncle, Alex Bertin Cruikshank at his home on his beloved farm in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. He was the tender age 69 years. He will be greatly missed.

He leaves to mourn in his passing his family of 2 sisters, Gayle A. Cruikshank and Glenda F. Cruikshank plus nieces Terri J. Duret (Don) and Barb A. Pegler (Wayne). Nephews Lyle Fred Pegler, William M Pegler and several great nieces and nephews plus his special friend Janet Sinclair.

Alex was born October 12, 1952 in the Boissevain Hospital in Boissevain, Manitoba. We lived on a farm west of there and also in Waskada, Manitoba. Roblin Collegiate is where he graduated from school in 1970.

Alex met his lifelong friend in Roblin, Earl Chase they were the best of buddies through thick and thin. We are also mourning Earl’s passing shortly after Alex. Our sympathy goes out to his family.

Alex became a mechanic though the Manitoba Apprenticeship program and graduated with honors and licenses for all Canadian provinces. He worked a variety of jobs through out his life. He started in Manitoba then went to other provinces including the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and USA. His expertise was trucks, cars, semi trucks, transit buses, heavy machinery and more. His passion was for GMC trucks but his great love was his 1968 International half ton truck and that 1957 Chevy were the ultimate. He finished his career working at UPS as their automotive director. He retired from UPS at the young age of 47 to return to his roots.

He bought a farm in the Sandy Lake area. His love of the land and animals is where he enjoyed many years of working on his mixed farm. He down sized to 40 acres a few years ago. He then built his dream 50 by 80 sq ft shop and enjoyed working in it all last winter.

He will be sadly and greatly missed by his family, good friends, and neighbors. He was a kind soul and would help anyone if needed. He also was a very smart man full of knowledge and would gladly share when asked. Alex was an easy-going person but yet a very independent, proud and private man. May he rest in Peace Forever.

Services will be held at a later date. Time and place to be determined.
