On June 13, 2025, Alexander Zytnyk peacefully passed away at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and generosity.
Born in Ukraine on October 14, 1935, Alexander came to Canada as a teenager—the eldest of four siblings—carrying with him a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to help his family build a new life.
One of his first jobs was at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg, where he met Elise Gamache. They fell in love, married, and raised three children together: Michael, Stanley, and Catherine.
Alexander worked for many years with WestRock Industries and was always known for being generous with his time, steady in his support, and ready to lend a hand. Whether it was helping someone move, lending tools, or offering a ride, he was the kind of person who never hesitated to show up when needed—and he never arrived at a gathering empty-handed. He and Elise also opened their home to extended family and foster children over the years, creating a warm and welcoming space for many.
He especially loved spending time at the cabin in Lac du Bonnet, where he shared stories, friendship, and peace by the lake. In retirement, he and Elise settled in McCreary, Manitoba, near her hometown.
Alexander was a proud grandfather of four, Phillip, Amanda, Michelle and Andrew and a great-grandfather to seven; Zade, Lennix, Harlow, Beck, Noelle, Samuel and Everleigh.
His spirit lives on in the people he loved the lives he touched, and the memories made around kitchen tables and bonfires. One memory that always brings a smile: he loved having his hair combed, a small ritual of care that many in the family fondly remember.
A burial will take place in Laurier, Manitoba. Details will be shared once arrangements are confirmed.
