Allen Brydon Obituary

Peacefully with family at his side, Allen passed away on April 4, 2025, at the Shoal Lake transitional Health Centre.

Allen was one of five children of the late Ernest and Joy (Vinnell) Brydon.  Allen married Shirley (Cathcart) on October 4, 1958. They lived and raised their 2 boys at the family farm in Sinclairville until moving to Allen’s grandfathers original homestead in 1969.  Allen & Shirley later retired and moved from the farm to town.

Allen attended Oakdale school until grade 6. His father lost his eyesight, and he took on the responsibility of working the family farm at Sinclairville until he retired.

Allen belonged to the Neepawa United Church and was a long-standing member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows holding various positions. Allen enjoyed curling, shuffleboard and was an avid lover of the Standardbred harness racing and followed the Manitoba Harness circuit for many years. He owned and partnered in many horses throughout the years but one that stood out was the namesake, Brydon’s Flight. If Allen wasn’t in attendance you can bet, he was watching harness racing on TV.  Allen & Shirley were also able to enjoy many years in Apache Junction, AZ as snowbirds and were able to enjoy some destination holiday travels as well.

Allen was predeceased by his wife Shirley in 2014, his parents Ernest and Joy Brydon, parent-in-laws Warland and Edith Cathcart, his brother Robert, sister Margaret, brothers-in-law Fred, Ernie and Murray, sisters-in-law Eleanor, Eileen and Beryl.

Surviving Allen are his sons David (Michelle Mowat), Dale (Michelle), granddaughter Kylee and great grandson Theo. Also, by his sisters Doris Meadows and Norma Watson, brother-in-law Russell Cathcart along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family appreciates the great care Dad received from the amazing staff at Kinsmen Kourts II and the exceptional staff at the Shoal Lake transitional care facility.
