Alvin Edgar Sjolie

March 7, 1935 - July 17, 2026 

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Alvin Edgar Sjolie, beloved husband of Helen and father to Bob and Kim. Alvin (Al) passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, with Helen holding his hands, at the Carberry Personal Care Home.

 Al was the first born to parents Albert and Clara on a farm south of Sturgis, Sask. Al took most of his schooling in Sturgis and then joined the RCMP and trained in Ottawa during 1955 56. Al’s first posting was guarding the Royal Mint, Parliament Hill and the Governor General’s residence. He also had the honour of guarding Prince Philip when he visited Canada for two weeks. After a few short transfers, Al was sent to Beausejour where he met Helen and on May 14, 1960, they were married. His work transferred him and his family to enjoy the communities of Steinbach, Regina, The Pas, Dauphin, Thunder Bay and finally Carberry.

Al retired from the RCMP in 1980 and bought the Macleods store in Carberry. He retired from the store in 1999 and enjoyed volunteering, golfing, hunting, travelling and grandparenting.

 Al is survived by his wife Helen (Soluk), son Bob and daughter Kim (Paul); grandchildren Johanna (Bjorn), Teal (Keean), Victoria (Brook), Griffin (Precious) and his pride and joy great grandchildren Lucy and Grayson. Siblings Delores, Adeline (Ray), Clifton (Aileen). Brother-in law Clifford and sisters-in-law Joan and Marilyn (Tom) and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his parents Albert and Clara, sisters Gloria and Loretta, parents-in-law Harry and Jean, brother-in-law Bob and sister-in-law Donna.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life at the United Church (608 3rd Ave.) in Carberry, Manitoba on August 7th, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
