It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin Unger at Neepawa Health Centre on June 3rd, 2022, at the age of 65, after his battle with COVID-19.
Alvin was born March 13, 1957 to Victor and Mary Unger, the second of six sons. They lived on a farm outside of Steinbach until Alvin was 8 years old, when the family moved to a farm in the Helston area, near Gladstone.
After graduating from high school in 1975, Alvin worked various construction jobs and farmed. He went to Steinbach Bible College in 1980-81. Alvin married Cheryl Kolesar on June 11, 1983 and together they raised three children: Chantelle, Bryce, and Brady. Alvin worked for Springhill Farms (now HyLife) for 6 years before farming full time. He was a sprayer operator and had grain and cattle until 2018.
Alvin’s faith in God kept him going during difficult times. In 2017, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. After undergoing treatment in 2019, he was completely cancer free.
Alvin enjoyed going for walks, gardening, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, going for drives out in the country, telling stories, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Alvin was predeceased by his father Victor, and his mother Mary.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cheryl; his daughter Chantelle (Matthew) Erickson and grandchildren Avrielle, Asher, and Ardynn; his son Bryce (Megan) and grandson Jayce; and his son Brady (Monica).
Also surviving are brothers Roland (Sandra), Mervin (Kathryn), Lee (Ruth), Wayne (Sandra), and Menno (Melissa); brothers-in-law Ray (Marion), Alan, and David (Kara) Kolesar; sisters-in-law Ann (Rick) Ducharme and Jean (Bob) Seaborn; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on June 16, 2022 at Calvary Chapel in Neepawa, MB, with Pastor James Anderson officiating. Internment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank or CancerCare Manitoba.
