Barbara Wade Obituary

Barbara Ann Isabel Wade

February 2, 1940 – April 3, 2024

It is with great sadness we share that Barb passed away peacefully at Minnedosa Health Centre with her daughters by her side at 84 years of age. Barb was born on February 2, 1940 on the family farm in the valley north of Basswood. She was the seventh child in a family of nine born to Fred and Becky Laming.

On November 14th, 1959 she married George Wade and they had 2 daughters, Gina and Lisa. They farmed a section and a half, south west of Basswood until 1974 when they moved into the town of Basswood. In 1984 they moved to Minnedosa, Manitoba. Barb was a farmer’s wife and loving mother with many roles. After leaving the farm, both Barb and George worked at the Valley Motor Lodge in a management capacity as well as helping out wherever needed. In addition, Barb worked for many years at the Royal Bank in Minnedosa.

Mom loved to take excursions with her sister, brother and friends to the Casinos south of the border. She also loved evening card and dice games with family and friends over the years. She was an avid walker and could be seen walking around town almost every evening. Mom took great pride in her yard and flower beds which were admired and commented on by many. She loved her garden and was always canning and baking to the delight of her family and neighbors. Granny especially loved and doted on her four grandchildren, baking their favorite treats, having sleepovers and was always there for a special Granny hug. She treasured her evening facetime calls with her two great-grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Gina (Earl) Borschawa and Lisa (Randy) Calen; Grandchildren Braedon (Kirstin) Borschawa, Kailey (Rob) McGavin, Kody and Kyle Calen; Great-Grandchildren Bennett and Brooks Borschawa; Sisters and Brothers Mary Adamson, Ralph (Rose) Laming, Wendell (Lorrie) Laming; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2007.

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand.

The angel said my place was ready in heaven far above, and

That I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.

But when I walked through Heaven’s gates, I felt so much at home,

For God looked down and smiled at me, and told me “Welcome Home”.

So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart,

For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.

A special thank-you to nurses Dacia and Dominique and all others who took wonderful care of Mom in the hospital. A private family service will be held at a later date.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Barb’s memory to the Minnedosa Palliative Care at the Minnedosa Health Centre.
