Blair Darwin Hopkins, loving husband of Ruth Hopkins, of Clanwilliam passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Minnedosa Hospital at the age of 76. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
Blair was born in Minnedosa on March 30, 1947. He was raised on the farm near Clanwilliam. He attended grade school at Little Clanwilliam School and Bethany School. He attended High School in Minnedosa. There, met Ruth in Grade 9 and that’s where their story began. Following school he worked for Manitoba Hydro. He was married to Ruth on September 23, 1967. In 1972, he left Hydro and moved to Ruth’s family farm and began a career of farming and also worked as a conductor for CPR.
He raised his family on the farm. He had many passions in life, one of which was farming. As the kids grew up he developed a love of horses which took him on many trail rides and also to numerous horse shows. Summers were spent on camping and fishing trips to Wakusko Falls & Margaret Bruce beach with family and friends. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and hunting over the years. He spent a lot of time on the land and had a special spot on Lake 5 on the family farm. In his later years, it was the grandkids that brought so much joy to his life and he was so proud of each of them. He also got a Harley three-wheeler and covered many miles of highway with Ruth. Blair & Ruth enjoyed their time away in the winter to Messa, Arizona. There they would also take the Harley and spend time exploring the area. Blair always loved animals, there were always horses, and many spoiled dogs and cats to keep him busy.
He was predeceased by his parents Albert & Tessie Hopkins, son Parry Hopkins, grand daughter Charleigh Murray.
Surviving are his loving wife Ruth, daughter Shari (Heath) Murray, grandchildren, Kayla Hopkins, and Tess & Lance Murray.
Also surviving are brothers Ken (Barb) Hopkins and Wayne (Carol) Hopkins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will take on January 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church with Father Chad McCharles officiating. Interment follow in the Clanwilliam Lutheran Cemetery.
Urn Bearer was Grandson Lance Murray.
