Dale Turcotte Obituary

Dale Jonathon Joseph Turcotte Jr. was born on December 25, 1980 in Scarborough, Ontario.  After the death of his beloved mother, Jennifer McIvor, he returned to Manitoba, and he and his sisters, Lisa and Kara, were cared for by her family, Uncle Norman and Auntie Janet, and Uncle Greg and Auntie Ronnie.  He later moved to Winnipeg, where he met his foster parents, Scott and Rebecca Gray, who would become “Pop” and “Ma” for the rest of his life.

The love of his life was Laura McKay.  For almost 20 years they faced challenges, shared joys and devoted themselves to being the best parents they could be to Skye, Dale Jr and Lawson.  Dale loved to joke about how Laura was his ex-wife and fiancée, but the truth is that their love story had many painful chapters, but in the end, they found each other again and were building a beautiful life together.

Dale always wanted to do something big with his life.  He once had a small role in a movie, and had considered an acting career.  He was a great singer and loved nothing more than to perform.   He was an amazing writer, always dreaming of publishing a book, and had recently started his autobiography.  In the last year, he started doing motivational speeches to help other people avoid the dangers of drugs and inspire those struggling with addiction to see that there is hope.  He had dreams of becoming an addiction counsellor.

Dale loved and was loved by everyone he met.  He had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone in need.  He made everybody laugh, but we know that this laughter also covered up the internal battles that he struggled with his whole life.

Dale died on June 25, 2024 at the age of 43.  He was predeceased by his mother, Jennifer Turcotte (nee McIvor), grandparents Donald A. and Rebecca M. (nee Yellowback) McIvor, Aunties Arlene M. McIvor and Noreen L. (nee North) McIvor, Uncles Rodrick A. McIvor and Gordon W. McIvor and cousins Stewart and Vernon McIvor and Laura’s cousin Ellen McKay.  He leaves to mourn his fiancée Laura McKay, children Skye St. Cyr, Dale Turcotte III, and Lawson McKay; sisters Lisa (children Alayah and Isaiah) and Kara (children Adarrius and Elijah); mother-in-law Darlene McKay; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ben (Jodee), Ryan (Mel), Derek (Amanda), Janine (Robert), Doyle; aunts and uncles Brian, Glenn & Mona, Sharon, Donald & Helen, Norman & Janet, Gregory, Cynthia, Darrel & Cindy; niece Jennifer Burnthard and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He will be forever loved and missed by the huge group of extended family and friends that he leaves behind.
