On November 16, 2023 Darwin John Matthews peacefully passed away at the Brandon Regional Hospital. He was 73.
Darwin was born on December 13th, 1949 in Esterhazy SK to Maurice and Adeline Matthew’s. His life began with a lot of challenges as he was born completely deaf. Even so, he was a happy child who loved to smile and laugh. Darwin’s father worked for CP Rail and in 1955 transferred to Minnedosa, where Darwin remained living until 2021. As a boy he delivered newspapers and when he got older he worked at the local pharmacy delivery medications. In his free time he loved fishing, but his greatest love was for his cats. Being an only child they were great company for him. Words and communication were always hard being handicapped, but numbers and anything electronic made much more sense. So in his later twenty’s he took a TV technician course offered by the DeVry Institute of Technology and became a tv repair man in 1978. He serviced TV’s all throughout the area and later sold satellite dishes. In the mid 1990’s he built a brand new shop and moved his business out of the house. While there he also sold household appliances. He remained working until 2018 when he retired.
Darwin’s health began to fail in 2018 when he got diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Two years later his kidneys began to fail and dialysis began in spring of 2021. Due to these health issues he was forced to quit driving and move to Brandon, where he was much closer to treatment. His home for the last 2.5 years has been Victoria Landing.
Darwin is predeceased by his parents Adeline and Maurice Matthews, his Aunt and Uncle Mary Ann and Don Junek and his Uncle Carl Junek.
He leaves to mourn his cousins Deanna Junek (Stu) and Kelly Junek (Carrie) and his Aunt Betty Junek.
