We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at White's Funeral Home - Minnedosa
Robert Donald (Don) Shorrock After a brief stay in the Minnedosa Hospital It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Don our husband, farther, papa, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle at the age of 90. Don was born on December, 13th 1931 in Coronation, Alberta. At the age of five Don and the family moved to the farm just outside of Minnedosa where he spent his years growing up. Don met his wife Donna Margaret Wark and they were married on April 20th 1956. They have two children Darcy and Norma Lynn. Don began his career in carpentry then in a few years bought the Volkswagen Dealership formerly owned by Bob Sanderson. Later he sold the building to Mac Davidson of Minnedosa Tire Shop. He then bought the building formerly known as the Sanderson Funeral Home where he operated a small motor Sales and Service shop known as Shorrocks Service. During this time Don also drove a school bus for many years. In the mid to late 70’s he closed the business and returned to carpentry with the Rolling River School Division where he worked until his retirement in 1996. During his years Don loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile, camping, gardening, carpentry, hobby cattle farming, and good old family gatherings and parties. Don loved his cards and played many a game of Chase the Ace and his little leather coin pouch always seemed to be full especially during hunting season at the shack. There were many nights spent in the back yard in his homemade gazebo and BBQ pit with family and friends who enjoyed good food and beverage until the wee hours of the morning. The shop was Dons domain and you could always find him there. Don always had some kind of a wood project going whether it was a bird house, game boards, or one of his back scratchers. In 2017 Don and Donna sold the family home. They moved to the Valley Haven Apartments where he continued to do his woodworking in the garage, feeding his birds, watching and enjoying the river and its wildlife until the end, just the way he would have wanted it. Don was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Elizabeth Shorrock, and Sister Irene Mansbridge, Father and Mother In-law Albert and Addie Wark, brother in-laws Allan Walker, Eric Mansbridge, Gerald Stone, Bill Sanderson, Arden Wark, Sister in-laws Karen Wark, and Judy Wark. Don is survived by his loving wife Donna Margaret (Wark) of 66 years, son Darcy (Connie), and daughter Norma Lynn (Lawrence) Gwyer, grandchildren Chad (Danielle) Shorrock, Brett (Amanda) Shorrock, Lorie (David)Froese, and Jay Gwyer, great grandchildren Thomas, Taylor, Penny, Blake, Ella, Mathew, Ryan, and Cadence, sisters, Doris Walker, Jean Stone, and Kathy Sanderson, brother in-laws Alvin Wark, and Keith Wark, and many nieces and nephews. Don, dad, papa you will be missed! We would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses at the Minnedosa Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Minnedosa Fish and Game Association or a charity of choice. A private family service will take place at a later date.
