It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Thomas Northam, who passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at the age of 95, at Minnedosa District Hospital.
Donald was born October 19, 1929, on the home farm in Rapid City, Manitoba, to parents Thomas and Elizabeth Northam. He was a devoted husband to Margie and a loving father to Doug, Susan, Marian, Tom, Judi, and Riley (Donna), as well as a cherished grandfather to 25 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren.
He grew up on the family farm north of Rapid City. He attended McBride Country School but gave up his schooling to pursue his love and passion for farming at the age of 15.
He married Margaret Greer on November 5, 1960, at Cadurcis Church. They settled on the Northam family farm, where they raised their two sons and four daughters. He farmed with his wife until his son, Doug, joined him in his farming endeavours. He was still active on the farm until the end of his life. His last day in the tractor was in December 2024.
Donald was known for his hard work, kind heart, dedication to family and passion for farming. He was athletic and was an avid ball player (pitcher) and curler. He taught all of his kids how to curl and had family curling teams for many years. He was a man of faith and donated his time to the Pastoral United Church board as well as the Cadurcis church board for numerous years.
He loved to read and spent many hours reading farming papers, local newspapers and westerns. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Northam, his sister, Grace, and her husband, Wes Peters and nephew, Ken Peters. He is survived by his wife, Margie, two sons Doug (Karen), Tom (Val), and four daughters Sue (Eric), Marian (Mike), Judi (Wes), and Riley (Tanya), 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held on June 18, 2025, at 4:00 at Cadurcis Cemetery, with Shirley Martin officiating.
