It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald William Smith on February 27, 2026, at his home in Riding Mountain, just one month shy of his 63rd birthday.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Anne Smith; his son Christopher Smith (Branden) and grandchildren James and Olivia; his step-son Aaron Allston (Emily); and his daughter Megan Gingrich (Clint) and their children, Natalie and Nathan. He is also survived by his parents, Raymond and Wilma (Vivian) Smith; his sister Sandra Korkosh (Robert) and their son Riley; and his brother Ryan Smith (Allison) and their children Conner and Avery.
Don was born in Neepawa and spent most of his early life in the area, with a brief two-year period when the family lived in Moose Jaw. After graduating, he held various jobs in the Brandon area until he was hired by the Winnipeg Police Service, where he served for 31 years and retired with the rank of Sergeant.
Don and Anne later retired to Riding Mountain, where they enjoyed many hobbies. Their dogs were a large part of their lives, and they loved taking them on hikes throughout the area. Don cherished spending time with his family, but he especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He loved watching them take part in their favourite activities and took an active role in their lives.
Don was predeceased by his grandparents, William and Ethel Smith and Donald and Katherine Middleton, all from the local area.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
