Dorothy "Marie" Fawcett Obituary

Dorothy (Marie) Fawcett (nee Allan) age 86 loving mother of four, and wife of 67 years to Elwood Fawcett, passed away in the early hours of February 12, 2024. Marie was born September 19, 1937, in Meaford, Ontario, the sixth of fourteen children born to Edna and Wilfred Allan (McKenzie). She grew up surrounded by a large family in Meaford and married Elwood on September 15, 1956. They went on to have four children together John, Joanne, Jeff, and Joy.

Marie worked at Global Textiles and Amerock Hardware in Meaford before moving out west with the family, as Elwood was employed with the United Church of Canada. Throughout the years Marie was a homemaker, involved with church activities, and enjoyed summers in her hometown of Meaford. After moving to Manitoba, Marie began her upgrading toward ministry in the United Church receiving her Certificate in Theology and served two Pastoral charges in ten years. One was in Manitoba and one in Saskatchewan where she was much loved in both communities. In 2000 Marie retired but continued to fill in as Pulpit Supply until 2010 before taking full retirement.

Marie was a generous and kind individual who loved her family and grandchildren. She took the most joy in scrapbooking, tinkering on the piano, bowling, singing, and dancing, and was part of the cast of the Strathclair drama club for ten years. Marie and Elwood had a couple of trips to Alaska and a road trip through the eastern Canadian provinces which they enjoyed and created beautiful memories.

Marie was predeceased by her parents, granddaughter Denai (Infancy), brother Jim, and sisters Maxine, Grace, and Barbara Joanne (Infancy). Brother-in-laws Cliff Stewart, David Taylor, Edwin Clarke, Cecil Carlisle and Lou Cahoon.

Marie is survived by her husband Elwood. Her children, John (Lynda) of Leamington, Ontario, Joanne (Tim) Kukucska of Strathmore, Alberta, Jeff (Junita) of Melville, Saskatchewan, and Joy Howes of Langford, British Columbia. Brothers John (Bracebridge, Ont), Ron (Meaford, Ontario), Bob (Meaford, Ontario), Terry (Meaford, Ontario), sisters, Alice (Meaford, Ontario), Anne (Owen Sound, Ontario), Ruth (Meaford, Ontario), Lois (London, Ontario), and Barbara of (Owen Sound, Ontario). She will also be greatly missed by 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

In place of flowers, donations to the Diabetes Foundation, Child Find or the Church Memorial Fund at Cadurcis would be appreciated.
