Gene Kramarchuk Obituary

Gene Ethel Kramarchuk

Gene Ethel (Kitson) Kramarchuk, beloved wife of the late Peter peacefully passed away at the Carberry Care Home on June 4, 2024 at the age of 96 years. Gene was born on February 20, 1928, in MacGregor Manitoba to Charles and Florence Kitson. She and her three siblings Bert, Marie and Dennis grew up in Austin and MacGregor. After completing High School, Gene trained in Portage la Prairie to become a Registered Nurse. Following graduation, she accepted a position at the Carberry Fox Memorial Hospital where she met Peter while attending St. Agnes Anglican Church. Gene and Peter married on September 16, 1953 and remained together for 58 years. Gene served as the Matron in 1954 and 1956 and continued work as a nurse for many years, but later joined Peter in the operation of the Carberry Style Shop. They purchased the store from Peter’s Mom and worked together to operate the family business until their retirement in 1987. Upon retirement, they enjoyed being in Carberry, Spruce Woods and Delta Beach, spending time with family, friends and the nature that surrounded them.

Gene was an active member of St. Agnes Church, holding positions in the ACW as the treasurer and leader of the JA. She was also a member of the Carberry IODE and loved working the book table at the rummage sales. As a supporter of the town of Carberry she regularly attended events but quietly worked behind the scenes.

Gene loved to be out in the sun and the wind, passing that love on to her family. Her most relaxed times were spent hiking or skiing in Spruce Woods, wandering the beach at Delta, traveling to see family, or just going for a drive to see what bird, animal, insect or plant was out that day. Her love of colour and nature transferred to the beautiful stained glass that she created, which we all cherish greatly. She loved living in her century old home, spending time gardening and planting trees around it. On cool evenings, she could be regularly found in front of her fireplace with a glass of red wine, a cat on her knee and a book in her hand. In the warmer times, she would be in front of a campfire in the yard or at the lake.

Gene was predeceased by her husband Peter; parents Charles and Florence Kitson; brother, Bert and sister, Marie; and in-laws Hope Kitson, Murray Guinn, Peter and Olga Young, Roman and Iris Beyer; and nephew Terry Guinn. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children and their families: Beverly and Scott Hamilton, Katherine and Dan, Christopher, Alysson and Emma, Alanna and Mike; Barbara and John Ochitwa, Tyson, Tanner and Maria; Bruce and Rhonda Kramarchuk, Dylan, Tristan and Isla, and Spencer and Crystal; Brenda Kramarchuk and Rob Nelson; her brother Dennis; and her many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many friends and acquaintances. It was an honour to have her as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend. Everyone will remember her favorite saying of “Be Kind”.

Thank you to the caring staff of the Carberry Care Home. The dedicated staff made Gene smile and we know they enjoyed her sense of humour with the tricks she would play on her favorites. Please remember Gene in the “Wonderful World” that surrounds us. A private family Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
