Gordon Edward Payne
Gordon passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the age of 85 in Brandon Hospital.
Gordon was the oldest son of Joseph and Lillian Payne. He was born in Bellsite, Manitoba on March 21, 1939 where he resided until the passing of his mother. In 1948, through foster care, Gordon and his brother Maynard came to live with Henry and Joyce Nelson and their family at Edrans.
Gordon took his schooling in Edrans School and grew up working on the farm with the Nelson’s and his brother Maynard. Upon completion of his schooling Gordon took a holiday to Ontario and ended up staying. He worked in Ontario into the 1970’s until Henry wrote and asked him to come home and help with the farm, which he did.
Once back in Edrans, Gordon never left the farm again. He worked side by side with Henry, Joyce and Maynard, planting crops, haying and raising cattle. After Henry and Joyce passed away, Gordon continued to cattle farm with Maynard. Gordon was a good brother who loved his home, his machinery and his cattle. He was very content to stay at home but always enjoyed a visit from anyone that popped in. He was also well known in many businesses in Neepawa for his smiling face and teasing manner.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lillian Payne, sisters Marion (Dave) Cox and Beverly (Jake) Marten. Foster parents Henry and Joyce Nelson, foster sisters Kay (Pete) Zacharias, Marianne (Raymond) Cooney and Isabelle (Joe) Pantelone, and foster brother-in-law Bill (Shelley)Adkin.
