Grant Willis Obituary

WILLIS: Grant Charles Willis died peacefully surrounded by family on July 2, 2019 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 12, 1944 in Carberry until he relocated to Brandon where he completed his training to obtain his Journeyman’s Inside Wiremans License. He was initiated into the I.B.E.W. to which he remained a lifelong member. Subsequently, he completed his apprenticeship at the trade of Electrical Construction. Upon completion of his education Grant moved with his wife, Irene, and young daughter, Sherry to Thompson. There, daughter Karen was born. The family moved back to Brandon in 1979 which continued to be Grants home base as he traveled to work in various cities throughout North America. His final place of employment was Bethune, SK before he reluctantly retired in 2017. Grant was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, the odd rum and all outdoor activities. He was known for his, sarcasm, quick wit, boisterous laugh and continuous one liners. Grant had a gift for “saying it like it is” and had little patience for nonsense. He shared his opinions freely solicited or unsolicited but was usually on point. While it was not always welcome, at the time, it will now be missed. Grant was predeceased by his parents Thelma and Charlie Willis and brother Kenny (Joan). He is survived by his wife, Irene, daughters, Sherry and Karen (Jason), grandchildren Hannah, Marc, Shane and Ryan. Brother, Arthur (Bonnie), sisters Heather (Everett), Laurel and Kathy (Larry). Cremation has taken place and a private affair will be held with close friends and family to celebrate Grants life at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations could be made to Cancer Care, Brandon.
