Al was the oldest of three sons born to William John Turner and his wife, Wilhemina (Grace) nee Londry. He went to high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended Brandon University for a short period of time. He then joined the RCAF, and completed Flying Officer Training, and was sent to Germany where he was with the 439 Fighter Jet Squadron. He left the military in 1961 and came back to the farm near Minnedosa.
In 1968 he married June Braash. They had two daughters, Keely and Jodi. His beloved wife June died in 1982 after a long bout with cancer.
Al later studied at the University of North Dakota, in Fargo, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. He taught Industrial Arts in Minnedosa until 1994, then taught at a Hutterite Colony near Alexander until retiring in 1996.
Al volunteered as a missionary with Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in 1996, where he accepted a 1 year assignment to Togo, West Africa. He met his present wife, Eileen, at missionary orientation. She went to Ghana, West Africa. Later, they were married in Togo. In the ensuing years, they both did agricultural and healthcare in various countries, including Nigeria and Cambodia. Al went three separate times to help with agriculture in Nicaragua.
He is survived by wife, Eileen; daughters, Keely (Dave), Jodi (Ian); grandchildren Sierra, Carter and Grace; great-granddaughter Sloan.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Bill (Mac) and Ken.
He will be deeply missed, always remembered for his loving heart.
