James "Jim" Hutton Obituary

At 2:20pm on October 21st, at the Neepawa Health Centre, our kind and thoughtful father, Jim Hutton, passed on to begin his next adventure. In his final weekend, he was surrounded by family who shared stories and laughter as they listened to his favorite music. His life, and all the ways he inspired so many, was celebrated. He was peaceful as we said our goodbyes.

Jim was born on May 28th, 1955, to Charles “King” and Doreen Hutton in Minnedosa. He grew up in Clanwilliam, Manitoba, with his two older brothers and younger sister. He began his education at the Clanwilliam Gray School and transferred to Minnedosa at age 13. He graduated high school at Minnedosa Collegiate in 1973 before moving to Winnipeg to study Advertising Art at Red River College, receiving his diploma in 1975. He married Julie Everett in December 1979, and they lived in Fort Francis, Ontario, until 1981 when they returned to Minnedosa to be closer to family. They welcomed their first of four children into the world in 1983.

Jim enjoyed a career in finance and sales before embarking on new career paths that sparked lifelong interests, including driver’s education, culinary arts, and electrical work. He was an involved community member in such clubs as the Kinsmen Club of Minnedosa, and was always a helpful neighbour. He loved to cook and BBQ and try new recipes. He was known for chatting with others around town and helping in whatever way he could. He had a passion for art, music, and gardening––ensuring all of his neighbors had fresh garden tomatoes––and was an avid historian. He was an inspiration to our family; family was at the heart of everything Jim was and did. A loving father, husband, brother, nephew, cousin, and in-law, he made sure that both his immediate and extended family felt cherished and cared for.

Jim leaves behind his best friend and wife of many years, Julie; their four children and four grandchildren: Darcy (Kane and children Carter and Drew), Stacey (children Brooklyn Jade, and Braxtyn), Aaron (Burgess), and Rae (Lauren); his siblings: Chuck (Barb), Dave (Anita), and Pat Woods; and many in-laws, nephews, nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, King and Doreen, Julie’s parents, Glenn and Ellen, brothers-in-law Rick Everett and Al Woods, and sister-in-law Sally Budlowski. Jim will be remembered lovingly for his smile-inducing humour, his empathetic, thoughtful character, and his intensely loving heart. TTFN, Papa.
