Joan Anne Cook, 90, passed away peacefully October 19, 2023, at the Neepawa Memorial Hospital. Joan was born in Portage la Prairie on January 6, 1933, the 5th youngest child to John and Mary Stephans. Joan lived in Portage until she met her husband Ed Cook where they married in November 1949. They had two beautiful children Linda and Alan. Their million-dollar family was complete.
Although the wife of a railroader, farmer and entrepreneur, Joan was as busy as mother and avid gardener. From apples to zucchinis, she could also grow cucumbers like nobody else we knew. She was definitely a ‘Joan’ of all trades.
Her final career before retiring was spent with Adriaansen Farm for 30 + years, and she truly loved every day of it.
Loving retirement, Joan continued gardening, sitting under her apple tree and enjoying her yard. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends. Hosting Barbeques in her backyard was always a huge highlight.
Joan is predeceased by her parents John and Mary Stephans, her husband Ed Cook, brother Mike, sisters Olga, Leeta, and Irene and their spouses.
Joan is survived by her children Linda (Robert) and Alan (Athena), her grandchildren Bobbi (Fred) Pritchard, Vicki (Rob) Peppler, Mandy (Kevin) Dowd, Stephanie (James) Mawson, and Denise (Derrek) Chaychuk. Baba was loved dearly by her great grandchildren Sarah, Eric, Braeden, Jhordan, Cole, Kaitlinn, Cassandra, Haylee, Josh, Dawson, Grayson, Rachel, Taylor and Ainsley and their spouses. Joan lived to be a great great Baba to 7 precious babies. Not to mention her many, many fur grandbabies.
Joan is also survived by Ken, her second chance of happiness, along with her extended families Earl Wallace and Mary-Anne Cook and close, dear friends of the family Irena and Stan Latka, Marisa Baron and many more.
Joan’s final wish was to not have a funeral service. In her honor, if you wish in lieu of flowers, you can donate to the heart and stroke foundation or to a local pet rescue in your area.
