John Darryl Olmstead of Carberry, MB passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
John was raised on the family farm and lived his entire life in the Carberry area.
In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and snowmobile with the kids in the area, and eventually driving his many cars. He enjoyed working with the animals on the farm, and especially liked his horse.
He worked for a few years at Simplot Feedlot, then McCains. Although John faced many challenges in his life, he was never short on friends, family, and good times.
He liked a good meal, a funny story, and a good laugh. Watching movies, playing cards or crokinole with his family and friends was something he looked forward to. Fixing automobiles was a passion of his and he often lent a helping hand to others. His fondness for animals was obvious, especially for dogs and birds.
John will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Richard (Geri), Judy, Gary (Sharen), and Connie (David). Although he had no children, he thought of all of his nieces and nephews as his own. He will also be fondly remembered by Ben and Ross. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Anne, and his good friend Keith.
For the last few years of John’s life, he was in the care of the Carberry Personal Care Home. The family would like to thank all of the staff for the wonderful care, compassion and support shown to John.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carberry Care Home or Canadian Mental Health Association.
