Larry Alfred Cibula 1940-2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Alfred Cibula on January 23,2026 at the age of 85, after a short illness, surrounded by his family at the Minnedosa Health Centre, Minnedosa MB.
Larry was born in Austin Manitoba on April 25,1940 the son of Joseph Cibula and Olga Mary (nee Kowalchuk). Larry grew up on a farm in the RM of North Norfolk MB, he attended Orangeville Elementary School, then Austin Collegiate, and was active in the area 4-H tractor Club
After graduation, Larry worked for Ashdown’s in Portage La Prairie, and in 1962 he met the love of his life Faye Orton and spent few years together before getting married 1965 in Portage la Prairie. Then the couple moved to Winnipeg. Larry continued to work for Ashdown’s in Winnipeg for a few years, until he suffered a significant back injury while at work that required a substantial period of recovery including prolonged bed rest.
Once he had fully recovered, Larry enrolled at the Red River College in Winnipeg for Production Technologist and graduated 1972. Larry spoke highly of his lifelong friendships while in school and continued a long-standing tradition of getting together every year for the past 50 years maintaining those relationships that were important to him.
The next 5 years were very busy for Larry and Faye, they made a life changing move to Minnedosa, mb as Larry had a job at Argo Steel. And in 1972, Larry began, building their forever home from the ground up and welcomed their first son into the world, Jason Neil in 1973 and then 2 years later they welcomed their second son Jared Andrew in 1975.
In1975 Larry’s dream to own his own business came true as he and his friend Denny opened Minion Industries LTD which they owned it together for a few years. Years later Faye bought Denny’s shares to the business, and it became solely just Larry and Faye’s. Together they worked extremely hard to grow their business, through good times and bad. With Larry and son Jared, creativity together they designed and built many amazing and intricate projects for Minnedosa and numerous other local towns through out Manitoba, a lot of which are still proudly displayed in those communities. Then in 2016, After 41 years of their work, they finally decided to retire.
In his retirement Larry’s hobbies included Intensive gardening, maintaining and improving the family home, assisting family at the farm, testing the ability of a small lake to produce fish for food, he always had a story to tell and very much enjoyed getting out to socialize and share a laugh with his favorite coffee shop crowd. He was a loving Husband, and a proud father and Grandfather, he held his family very close to his heart. And deeply cherished them all.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary and his son Jason.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years Ellen Faye (nee Orton); his son Jared; his daughter in law Aaron (Bob) and his cherished grandchildren Madison and Cole; his brother Ralph (Patricia), Garry (Marilyn), Barry (Darlene); his sisters Deann (Lyle Cox), Sharon MacNeill, his Aunt Irene; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Minnedosa United Church 48 Main Street, Minnedosa, Manitoba with interment in the Minnedosa Cemetery.
