Mabel Mochnacz Obituary

Mabel Mochnacz, (nee Stach)

With profound sadness, we share the news of the gentle departure of our cherished Mother, Baba, and Great Baba, Mabel Mochnacz, who, at the age of 96, was embraced in the arms of the Lord on February 26, 2024, at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home.

Born in Ozerna, MB on June 5, 1927, Mabel's youthful years were spent at Jackfish Lake School. She devoted some time to domestic work, and also spent some time as an egg grader in Erickson, MB.

Mabel wed her soulmate, Mike Mochnacz, on June 21, 1947, and they embarked on farm life in the RM of Harrison area. After 33 years of farm living, they retired to Minnedosa in 1979. A dedicated parishioner of the Jackfish and St. Alphonses Roman Catholic churches, Mabel remained active in her faith community. She and Mike celebrated 56 years of wedded bliss until his passing in 2003. Mabel briefly moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family, and returned to Minnedosa in 2020, where she reconnected with old friends at the PCH.

Known for her culinary skills, Baba Mabel's kitchen was a haven of heavenly aromas, from her delicious chicken soup to the sweet smells of cinnamon buns. Her hands, skilled in sewing and gardening, brought beauty into the world, much like the stunning gladiolas that graced her garden each year.

Her love and legacy are carried on by her daughters Darlene (Dennis) Derhak, Phyllis (Dave) Dubé; granddaughters Karla (Mark) Warren, Shauna (Adam) Clements; and great-grandchildren Ethan, Seth, Mabel, Kate, and Mason. Mason, her youngest great-grandchild, shared a special bond with Baba, a bond of quiet moments, shared smiles, and the unspoken understanding that was beyond words.

Mabel leaves behind her sister Dolores (Steve) Zegalski, brother-in-law Steve Novak, sister-in-law Jean Stach, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded in passing by her parents Anthony and Phyllis Stach; her granddaughter Derhak (stillborn 1979); her beloved husband Michael Mochnacz; and siblings Ernie, Steve (Vivian) Stach, Margaret (Lorry) Balabanski, and Lavinia Novak.

Cremation has occurred, and a private family service will be conducted in June, with her interment at Minnedosa Cemetery alongside her beloved husband.

If friends or family so desire donations in Mabel's memory can be made to the Minnedosa Personal Care Home, Box 960, Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0.

Our heartfelt appreciation is extended to the staff at PCH Minnedosa for their compassionate care of our mother, and to Nathan at White's Funeral Home for his support and guidance.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that day,

God was going to call your name.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

You did not go alone.

For part of us went with you,

The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories;

Your love is still our guide.

And although we cannot see you,

You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,

And nothing seems the same,

But as God calls us one by one,

 The chain will link again.
