Marie Cardy

Marie passed away peacefully on Friday October 13, 2023, at the age of 95. Born February 4th, 1928, in Winnipeg to Alina and Ernest Phillips.  She grew up on the Swan Lake farm with her 5 siblings. She worked for the telephone system and attended Normal School in Winnipeg. She taught for several years. Eventually marrying Sydney Scott Cardy of Winnipeg and they had 3 children Lawrence, Andrew and Cheryl.

The family purchased the Tom Martin Farm at Basswood in the summer of 1963 and their new life began. Over the years Marie was very involved in community events. She supported the local Basswood Consolidated school, the Basswood United Church and choir, Basswood WI, as well as playing the piano and singing in the Basswood orchestra.   Her love for music and entertainment had her involved over the years with concerts and programs performing monologues, singing and entertaining the local community as well as neighboring communities.

She was predeceased by her husband Syd in 2019, Brother Sam Phillips and sister Janette Phillips. Left to Mourn are sister Betty and brother George (Lucille), sister in law Florence and their families. Her sons Larry Cardy (Bev Anderson) Stoughton SK, Andy Cardy (Stacie) of Basswood and 4 grandchildren Christopher, Drew, Cassandra and Brent and daughter Cheryl Cardy (Charles Hood) and 2 grandchildren Amber and Shaun of Okeechobee Florida. 

There will be Celebration of her Life held Wednesday October 18th at 11 am in the Basswood Hall with a lunch to follow.  Friends and family of Marie are invited.  Anyone wanting to donate give to a charity of choice or to the Minnedosa Personal Care Home.

Marie will be interned later at the St Andrews Church north of Winnipeg to be united with husband Syd.
