MARTHA FOXTON
Martha Foxton was born to Melker and Gertrude Johnson on February 22nd, 1928 and was their only child. She was raised on the family farm and lived all but thirteen years in the same house. She learned to speak, read and write Swedish at a young age and made several trips to Sweden. One trip was when WWII broke out, and her parents and her were on the last passenger ship to Canada.
She worked for over twenty years as a home care attendant in Minnedosa and Neepawa. She enjoyed many games and crafts. She knitted, did embroidery, weaving, wood working, tatting, darning and crocheting. Her favourite games included Tic Tac Toe, Yahtzee, Chinese checkers, Crib, Up the River, and Word Searches. The last few days of her life people will remember how she loved to play Crokinole, and how very competitive she was.
Her favourite passions were socializing and family gatherings. She flew out to Alberta for her granddaughter Ashlynn’s wedding to Blair. While at the wedding on July 14th, she said the grace in Swedish, and she got up for a couple of dances.
Martha passed away in Alberta on July 20th, 2023. She leaves to mourn six children: Karen (Ivan) Derbowka, Brian (Terry) Foxton, Sandra Ng (Clayton Reid), Valerie Gawel, Patricia (Ed) Hinsburg, and Roger (Shelly) Foxton. She also leaves to mourn thirteen grandchildren: Kyle (Megan) Derbowka, Drew (Jacqueline Robertson) Derbowka, Tyler (Steph Manning) Foxton, Haley Foxton, Christina Ng, Deanna Ng, David (Natalie Tran) Ng, Sharmanda (Curtis Nikkel) Gawel, Ashlynn (Blair) Shannon, Stephen Hinsburg, Mark Hinsburg, Dayna (Rigby) DeVos, and Robyn (Carlos Aq) Foxton.
