Orville Madill Obituary

With heavy hearts the family of Orville Madill announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, brother and Papa in his home on February 22, 2021.

Orville was born November 12, 1949 in Minnedosa to Hilda and Leslie Madill.  Together with his brother Arnold they grew up on the family farm just outside of Bethany.  He helped on the family farm and attended school at Bethany school and then Minnedosa Collegiate where he made some life-long friends and had adventures with his cousins.  After school he met his wife Sharon and together they raised 3 children; Crystal, Trent and Brent.  The family enjoyed many great camping adventures and travelled the province following the boy’s baseball and hockey teams or watching Crystal in her figure skating competitions.

Over the years Orville worked in a few places starting off at the Co-op, then running Madill meats to then head to Spring Hill Hog plant, and eventually ending his career at the Co-op in Minnedosa where he was the meat manager until he retired in 2011.

Orville loved to watch and talk sports; he always had the time to stop and talk about how the Canadiens or the Jays were making out and how he thought their season was going to go.  You could probably find him at the rink, baseball diamond or curling club depending on the season.  He dedicated his time between the local ball and hockey clubs and enjoyed bonspeiling and playing the Minnedosa Men’s curling league.  He coached the Minnedosa Mavericks from 1997 to 2012 which included 8 league championships and one provincial runner up.  As well the team had a stretch from June 2008 to 2012 where they never lost a regular season game.  During the winter he volunteered his time to run the time clock for the Minnedosa Bombers for over 20 years.

Just about the only thing more important to him than sports was his family.  Hunting, fishing, camping and many holiday meals were spent together playing cards and sharing laughs.  He held a special place for all his grand children and would go and watch them at all their activities or have them out to his place to spend time together.  Orville is predeceased by his parents Leslie Madill and Hilda Madill (Hutton) and his loving wife Sharon (Pasowisty).  Left to cherish his memory are his brother Arnold Madill (Brenda), his children Crystal Stadnyk, Trent Madill (Erin) and Brent Madill, his grandchildren Shawna Cleland (Tim), Nathan and Justin Stadnyk, Kaylea Madill, Riley and Morgan Madill, two great grandchildren Bennett and Brooks Cleland as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Due to the current health regulations a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Boyd Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Orville's memory may be made to the:  Boyd Cemetery, Box 1358 Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0 or Minnedosa Minor Baseball or Minnedosa Minor Hockey c/o the Town of Minnedosa, Box 426 Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0 (Please make cheque's payable to the Town of Minnedosa)
