Phyllis Eileen Noel

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Phyllis Eileen Noel (Matthews) on August 4th, 2022 at the Minnedosa Hospital (Manitoba) with Gerald and his three daughters by her side. Phyllis Eileen Matthews Noel formerly of Bridgeport, Newfoundland and Labrador was in her 87th year. Phyllis was born February 16th, 1935 at Brownsdale Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. She graduated from Teachers College at the University of Prince of Wales in 1952 and Memorial University in 1953. She went to Memorial University again in 1967 for the new math course. Phyllis spent the next thirty-seven years teaching in Summerford, Moreton’s Harbour, and Bridgeport and did substitute teaching for ten years. Phyllis was thought about highly by her students. She received a Valentine’s card in 2021 from a former Kindergarten student and his wife.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Tom Noel of Bridgeport on April 13th, 1956. Phyllis lived with Tom and his parents from 1956 – 1971 in Bridgeport until their house was built in 1971 also in Bridgeport. Phyllis lived in their home until she moved to Manitoba in 2018. One of her former pupils bought her house in Newfoundland which brought Phyllis a great deal of comfort knowing who would be living there. Phyllis enjoyed quilting, sewing, puzzles. colouring, playing cards, the game frustration and listening to Gerald sing. Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband, Tom (February 26th, 2017); parents John and Mary Ann Matthews; parents-in-law Josiah and Mary Noel; two sisters – Eva (Stanley) and Sadie (Ralph); two brothers – Roland (Mildred) and Llewellyn (Florence); two brothers-in-law – Jim and Gilbert; two nephews – Baxter and Russell, and one niece – Louise Eddy.

Leaving to mourn Phyllis are her partner Gerald Watkins and his family – son, Danny and family; daughter, Debbie and family; daughter, Cindy and family, and daughter Jo and family. She also left to mourn her passing - four nephews, two nieces, and a large circle of family and friends. Visitation to take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 2-4pm from Isles Funeral Home in Twillingate, Newfoundland.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 1pm from the Isles Funeral Home in Twillingate, Newfoundland. Donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the Bridgeport Cemetery Fund.
