Raymond Peck Obituary

Dec. 11,1928 to June 7, 2024

Raymond was born to Harry and Elsie Peck, of the Melvin School District, Municipality of North Norfolk , on Dec. 11, 1928 on the farm. As an only child , he was much loved and appreciated by his parents. Being born on the farm, he had a love for the land which lasted his entire life, even after moving into town.

Ray attended Melvin school for 9 years, and then went to Two Rivers in Saskatchewan to finish his high school. He then, attended 3 years of Bible School at Caronport, Saskatchewan.

In his earlier years, a visiting missionary, Mr. Smuland from the CSSM, led him to know the Lord Jesus at the age of 12. Consequently, the work ofthe Canadian Sunday School Mission was dear to his heart. He spent time working at Gimli Bible Camp as a cabin leader .Later, he was a founding member of the Carberry Bible Camp (CSSM), which led to him becoming part of the Manitoba Board of Directors for many years.

Raymond loved the farm, and eventually joined his dad, buying his first tractor, a John Deere model AR. His father and neighbour, Bob Stephenson, started working together for haying and harvesting in 1939. When the fathers died, Raymond and Bob's son Cyril continued the tradition until Ray sold the farm and moved to Carberry.

As a young man, Raymond attended the Arizona Sunday School and church, where he met Mary Wiebe from Castle Point, marrying her in 1966. They became members of the Carberry Evangelical Free Church, where they served in many capacities.

Raymond and Mary had no family of their own but filled their home with friends , neighbors, nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws, enriching many lives as well as their own.

This account would not be complete without a mention of his model train which grew to cover a large portion of the basement, one track even taking a route through the woodbox when there was no room to be found anywhere else . This was a source of much enjoyment for him, as well as a fascination for children and adults of all ages. He was always willing to run a train (or more) for anyone who expressed an interest.

Looking back on Raymond's life, one could say he was a man , of whom it will be said, loved his Lord, his wife and his fellow man, honest and sincere in everything he did.
