In Loving Memory of Roy James McNabb
March 26, 1932 – June 17, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roy James McNabb announce his passing on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Minnedosa Hospital, at 93 years of age after a courageous journey with cancer.
Born on March 26, 1932, on the family farm to Douglas and Jean McNabb, Roy was one of five boys. He received his education at Cameron School and spent his early years working alongside his family, learning the values of hard work, dedication, and resilience—qualities that would define his life.
On July 20, 1957, Roy married the love of his life, Majorie Martin, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in love and family. They were blessed with four children, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. While Roy and Marjorie enjoyed travelling with friends and family, their leisure time was focused on attending local community events and following their grandchildren’s activities at arenas, ball fields, music events, and 4H.
A proud farmer and cattleman, Roy deeply loved the land and was known for his unwavering work ethic. Over the decades, he witnessed and embraced incredible changes in agriculture—from starting with a combine without a cab and only a 35-bushel hopper, to driving his final combine with a 390-bushel hopper. He was also well known for his love of chopping wood, his ever-ready axe, and keeping the woodpile stacked high. He found great joy in gardening, tending to his garden with the same care and patience he gave to everything else. Beyond the farm, he was an active community member, sharing his time and talents as a proud Rotary Club Member and 4H leader. He found time in later years to take up golf and curling and was a member of the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club and Curling Club.
He will be lovingly remembered and survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie, son Barry, daughter Linda Carter (Terry ), son Marty, and son Terry (Michelle). He was a proud grandfather to Krista Carter (Nick Mahy), Adam (Grace) Carter, Bryce (Jalysa) Carter, Rory, Rylee, and Robyn McNabb, and a loving great-grandfather to Charlotte, Oliver, Sophia, Camille, and Liam. He also leaves behind a sister in law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins who respected him greatly and held him dear.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Minnedosa Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care, and to CancerCare Manitoba for their ongoing support.
"We will miss his steady hands, quiet wisdom, and the love that held our family together."
A celebration of life will be held on June 27th at Minnedosa United Church. Donations may be made in Roy’s memory to Minnedosa & District Foundation Inc.
