Ruth Usick Obituary

Ruth Usick (nee Bachewich) was born in 1932 at Ozerna and passed away peacefully on the 21st of November 2023 at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home.

Ruth grew up in the Sandy Lake - Ozerna district before marrying Lawrence Usick and moving to the Newdale area. Ruth’s life was her family and her farm. You could not step into Ruth’s home without being offered a cup of coffee or tea and something to eat. We’ll always remember running over to Grandma’s house for homemade cookies or bacon sandwiches. Ruth’s recipes will be kept to pass on to future generations by her grandchildren but our perogies will never be as good as Baba’s. Ruth loved gardening and kept a garden up until she was in her 90s. She always tried new varieties and always grew many flowers. The large orchard at the family farm will be one of her many legacies.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years Lawrence Usick, and her sons Lonnie (Kim), Wesley (Dianne), and Morley. Also her grandchildren: Carolyn Usick, Jennifer Usick, Nicole (Luc) Parent, Lauren Usick (Ed Waddell), Megan (Mitch) Burgess, and Grant Usick (Sydney Duncan); and her great-grandchildren Madison and Emily Parent, Sophie and Owen Waddell, Mazey and Liza Burgess, and Mila Usick. As well as her sister Lillian Usick, brother Bob Bachewich, sister-in-laws Olivia Bachewich and Eleanor Mosher, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Bachewich, brother Andrew Bachewich, sisters Ina Bachewich, Florence Usick, Sylvia Hunt, Elizabeth Gregorash, brother-in-laws Adam and Steve Usick and Bob Mosher, and daughter-in-law Shelly Usick.

Ruth was able to live on the farm, cooking and caring for her home and her family until only a few months before her passing. She was a great example for her family and will be greatly missed.
