Sharon Louise Goetz

Sharon Goetz of Minnedosa, Manitoba passed away on Monday April 11, 2022 at the Neepawa Health Center at the age of 71 years.

Sharon was born on December 2, 1950 to Alex and Ella Boyd of the Glanton District. She attended school at Glanton until Grade 6 and finished her schooling at Forrest Collegiate. She got her teaching degree at Brandon University and started her teaching career in Kenton for two years, then continued teaching in Flin Flon.

She met her husband, Cal, on a blind date skating on Channing Lake. They were married on December 30, 1972 and in 1974 they moved to Winnipeg, where they worked for a year. In August of 1975 they moved to Minnedosa where Sharon became involved in the local school system. Her son, Trevor, was born on November 21, 1976 and her daughter, Shannon, was born on October 23, 1981. Sharon stayed at home with the kids until they were both school age. After that, Sharon returned to the local school system, fulfilling many roles, from teacher to educational assistant to student teacher advisor, until she retired.

Sharon and Cal spent 49+ loving years together raising a family and creating a community around them. Sharon enjoyed family time and watching her kids/grandkids activities, and spent hours crafting and baking with them. She loved camping with family and friends and did so for 50 years. You could also find Sharon playing cards, gardening, baking, scrapbooking and volunteering at the library or heading for coffee with the ladies. She had a zest for life, an infectious smile and her kind nature never went unnoticed. She will be remembered by many as an incredible community member, a good neighbor, a helping hand, a confident, a teacher, a volunteer, a Brownies leader, a sister, an auntie, a daughter, a mother, a grandmother and a wife.

Surviving Sharon are her husband Cal, son Trevor (Michelle), their children Courtney, Breanna and Justin, daughter Shannon (Jon), their children Callie and Kaitlyn, and her brother Jim (Joanne) Boyd, niece Janelle Boyd, nephew Ryan Boyd (Sarah) and their children Piper and Bingham, brother in law Harold (Margaret), sister in laws Elizabeth Kozak and Audrey Sawyer (Dave), along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will take place at the Minnedosa United Church on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kathy Platt officiating.
