William "Earl" Wilkinson Obituary

William Earl Wilkinson – Uncle Earl peacefully left us on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 with nieces Angela and Kim by his side reassuring him he had always been loved and would be missed until we all see him again.
Uncle Earl was born the middle son of George and Mary (Aikman) on December 13, 1926. Uncle Earl enjoyed life on the farm and remained there for the first 87 years of his life. He enlisted at the end of World War II and was still in basic training when peace was declared in 1945, thus bringing a halt to his desire to be deployed overseas. He returned to the family farm where he worked alongside Grandpa as a humble farmer until Grandpa’s passing in 1956. Uncle Earl made his life on the farm maintaining the crops and a variety of livestock. Grandma lived on the farm with him until her passing in 1967. Over the years, Uncle Earl continued to grow grain and established a very productive chicken business which he used to supply Neepawa’s hatchery with a vanload of eggs every Monday morning, not to mention numerous weekly customers in Minnedosa.
In his younger years, Uncle Earl enjoyed curling, the odd game of golf and managed to 5-pin bowl well into his 80’s. Fishing was possibly his favourite pastime as he could do it year round when the chores were done and the land did not require tending.
Since the fall of 2013, Uncle Earl lived in a suite at the Legion Gardens where he made many friends (one of whom made sure he had a warm meal every evening and some who ensured he had a platform to share his opinion on the daily events) and enjoyed the friendship of a unique young couple across the road who would treat him with baking and made sure his little red truck was always clear of snow should he want to venture downtown.
Uncle Earl is also predeceased by his older brother Henry and sister-in-law Dorothy, and his younger brother Dennie and sister-in-law Gwen.
Three generations of nieces and nephews will remember Uncle Earl for the gentle soul that he was.
