Yvonne Scott Obituary

Yvonne Marjorie (Parrott) Scott

Yvonne Marjorie (Parrott) Scott passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25th 2026 in Minnedosa Hospital.

Yvonne was born at Lady Minto Hospital in Minnedosa on the 12th of August 1937.Yvonne grew up 2 miles south from a one room school called Rookhurst.  This was a two-bedroom bungalow home.  It wasn’t very well insulated so they had a wooden cookstove they used for heat.  In the living room, they had a booker heater.  Coal was too expensive so they would find dead trees in the bush and stack them in the so-called porch.  Yvonne’s dad, William Parrott would have to feed the fire, at intervals, all night.  In the winter, her dad, drove a team of horses to get them to school.  The kids rode in an open sleigh with lots of blankets and quilts piled on them.  When they moved to Bethany, they used covered vans to get to school.  It was like a small cabin with sleighs.  She was 8 years old when they moved to Bethany.  Yvonne’s mom, Marjorie Parrott, was tired of paying rent for farm land so they jumped at the opportunity to buy cultivated land with buildings.  This farm was East of Bethany by about 3 miles.  That’s when they started to go to school in Bethany.  The school had 3 classrooms and 1 room as a library.  Yvonne remembers her dad telling her that he only went to school until he was 14 years old.  That’s when he had to learn to drive a team of horses, to drive other kids to school.

As a youth, Yvonne enjoyed 4H, ice skating, curling and baseball.  She took on a teaching position for a year in a one-room school in Big Valley.  She later volunteered her time with many organizations: was a leader in Brownies, Girl Guides and Pathfinders, Hospital Aid for 57 years, Royal Purple and the Red Hat Ladies Club.  She made jams, jellies, preserves, baking and handy crafts and sold them at the Minnedosa Farmer’s Market for 35+ years.  She loved to sing and dance.  This started by going to dances with her family, helping teach square dancing with her parents Marj and Will Parrott, Christmas pageants in Bethany and she met her future husband Reg at a local dance.  She did couples dance, yoga, tap and bellydance with her daughter Crystal and her dancers over the years.  She designed and sewed 200+ costumes for Crystal’s dancers every season, for 35+ years.  She continued her love for movement and joined the Strathclair Drama Club as a chorus member and seamstress for a number of years. She liked camping, snowmobiling, had lots of pets over the years (including an orphaned fox), enjoyed a good meal and loved auction sales and yard sales.

Yvonne Marjorie Parrott married Reginal Wilfred Scott on the 20th of July 1956 in Bethany.  They started married life on the farm that Reg grew up on SE 36,13,18.  They raised three children; Lorne, Bonnie and Crystal.  They had a mixed grain farm and raised cattle.  Reg became an excellent curler and was able to compete in bonspiels both locally and out-of-province.  Yvonne loved curling also and took the family along when she could.

She was predeceased by her father William Parrott, mother Marjorie Parrott, son Lorne Scott, brother in laws Bert Graham and Allan Broome, brother Glenn Parrott and husband Reg Scott.

Forever in our hearts and missed dearly by her daughters Bonnie (Scott) Larochelle and husband Marc, Crystal (Scott) Scott & husband Fred, grandsons Cearan & Rhogan Scott, her sisters Gladys Broome and Joyce Graham, her brother Ron Parrott and wife Beryl and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and all who knew her through her clubs and activities.

Big hugs to you Yvonne and keep on dancing!
